Mole Removal

What is a mole removal?

Moles can be removed in much the same way as any other skin lesion that is to be biopsied. Moles may be removed by a simple shave procedure not requiring stitches or, for deeper skin lesions, a technique to remove the mole that results in stitches may be employed. It takes about one week for the results of the mole removal biopsy to come back.

Why should I get a mole removal?

If a patient has a changing or worrisome mole, it can usually be removed simply in the office. Very unusual moles, especially those with a varied pigment arrangement, can be suspicious for melanoma and might require a more involved procedure called an excision. These too are performed in the office under local anesthesia.
